The Zongo Development Fund is mandated to develop infrastructure in Zongo communities with emphasis on educational, health, social welfare and community development. The main objective of this programme is to build community infrastructure to ensure all persons in Zongo and inner-cities in the country have secured and easy access to basic services. The infrastructure provided under this programme includes community access roads, drains and bridges, recreational parks, community lighting, basic school infrastructure, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities and community health infrastructure. Since the commencement of operations in 2019, the Fund has so far executed and handed over 487 projects across 227 communities in over 120 districts across all regions in Ghana.

These interventions include mechanized community water systems, basic school classrooms and furniture, community libraries, community drains, access roads, streetlights, institutional toilets and community sports and social centres (CSSCs).

In the area of sports and social activities, the ZoDF has emerged as the foremost public provider of sports centres and astro turfs in the country.

In furtherance of the implementation of its mandate, the Fund has collaborated with development partners with a view to supplementing the support it receives from central government. Currently, the Fund is providing 200 Zongo communities with water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) facilities in collaboration with the USAID.
